Ogden Sierra Club -- Adopt a Roadless Area
Francis Peak
This area extends southward from Webb Canyon to Farmington Canyon,
in Davis County. It is contiguous with the
Thurston Peak unit, and together they
are proposed as a wilderness area by the Ogden Sierra Club.
The Bair Canyon trail leads from the foothills into the heart
of this area.
A good gravel road climbs from Farmington to the radar installation on
Francis Peak, providing easy access to the ridge tops.
Issues affecting this unit include:
- Heli-skiing along ridges, as proposed in the most recent
draft of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest management plan.
- Mapping proposed wilderness boundaries.
- Hiker access from the east.
- Grazing (east of the ridgeline).
- Extension of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail south beyond Bair Canyon.
