Ogden Sierra Club -- Adopt a Roadless Area
Lewis Peak
This 12,000-acre roadless area extends from Ogden Canyon north to
North Ogden Pass; the main access is via the popular Skyline
Trail. The Ogden Sierra Club has proposed that the portion
of this area southwest of the Skyline Trail be designated as
wilderness (with a cherry-stem for the Lewis Peak trail and minor
exclusions for the Bonneville Shoreline Trail).
Issues affecting this unit include:
- Motorcycle use of the Skyline Trail and Lewis Peak trail, especially creation of multiple
braided trails along ridgelines.
- Illegal motorcycle use of spur trails that branch southward from the
Lewis Peak trail.
- Proposed expansion of Nordic Valley
Ski Area.
- Mapping proposed wilderness boundaries.
- Hiker access to Goodale Creek canyon from Ogden Canyon.
- Possible new trail developments.
