Ogden Sierra Club -- Adopt a Roadless Area
Monte Cristo
The Monte Cristo plateau, at the summit of Utah Highway 39, is crossed by
a number of roads but also includes substantial roadless fragments.
The largest is the Sugar Pine roadless area at the northeast corner
of the National Forest lands.
Issues affecting this unit include:
- Preserving roadless characteristics where they still exist, keeping
motorized travel to designated routes.
- Proliferation of dispersed campsites.
- Maintaining the crucial wildlife corridor between the Uinta Mountains and the northern Rockies.
- Winter snowmobile use and its effects on wildlife and nonmotorized
recreation.
- Grazing.
