Ogden Sierra Club -- Adopt a Roadless Area
Public Grove
This area lies along and northwest of the unpaved Liberty-Avon road.
Issues affecting this unit include:
- The "roadless" status of this area is being questioned by the Forest Service, because it is
crossed by a jeep trail which divides it into two pieces, each less than 5000 acres. The trail
has been closed to motorized use for many years, but the Forest Service has never enforced the
closure and is now proposing to legally open the trail.
- Off-highway vehicles have caused extensive damage to soils and vegetation. The Forest
Service has recently put significant effort into blocking access to sensitive areas
and revegetating these areas. Still, recreationists have pioneered new routes
around barriers into closed areas.
- The proposed
Shoshone ATV trail system
would pass through
this area.
- Conflicts between snowmobiling and nonmotorized recreation in the winter.
- Management of lands newly acquired through the Snowbasin land exchange.
- Grazing.
- Proposals to pave the Liberty-Avon road.
