Ogden Sierra Club -- Adopt a Roadless Area
Wheeler Creek
This unit includes the lands north and east of Snowbasin Resort.
It is separated from the
Taylor-Coldwater area by the powerline in Sardine Canyon.
Unfortunately it is too small for official roadless status,
and the eastern portion, including the Middle Fork and East
Fork of Wheeler Creek, is separated from the rest by the
old Snowbasin highway. Nevertheless, it is important to
preserve what remains of the natural character of these lands.
Issues affecting this unit include:
- Snowbasin resort development on adjacent land, and resulting pressure
to emphasize developed recreation.
- Water quality in Wheeler Creek and its tributaries.
- Trail construction, reconstruction, and maintenance.
- Winter recreation, including grooming of trails for cross-country skiing.
- Rare and threatened plant and bird species.
